| Dave Green Custom Cycle to exhibit! - Posted - January 28, 2011 |
| |
Again this year, Dave Green Custom Cycle will exhibit some of their latest creations. Dave lives and works right in our backyard., from his shop in Aylmer, ON.
His wife Kim tells his story....
"His earliest trophy was 1974, Dave was just 12 years old, and he won a model contest. He tells me he had drawers and drawers full of miscellaneous model car parts which he would mould and fabricate into unique builds.
He began showing custom motorcycles at the London Bike Show in 1983, a Honda, I attached a picture, and this picture was used as our wedding announcement, not your typical engagement photo!
Dave is a licensed body technician, and over the years I´ve lost count of the numerous bikes and cars that he has built. It was in the late 90´s that he concentrated more on motorcycles and less on cars, he claims that a motorcycle takes up less space in the garage, and they take a lot less time to complete. Our son Kyle joined the business in 2006 as a licensed Harley Davidson technician, he has also built some awesome bikes, they make a great team! Their bikes have sold right across Canada and the USA.
The motorcycle business has taken us to great places and we´ve met amazing people along the way. I remember in 1997 Dave built a custom Sportster for the Daytona Beach Boardwalk Show. This was about the same time television started to make custom bike builders huge celebrities, Dave was waiting in line, in front of another builder, who thought that he was much more important and should be let in sooner, I can still hear Dave telling him in so few words, F*** You, I was first. That builder was Cyril Huze, and Dave won his Sportster class.
It was in Florida that Dave was fortunate to have his bikes noticed by American Iron Magazine. He was featured in three of their magazines, 2002, 2005, & 2008. He was also honoured to have one of his custom baggers in Bagger Magazine in 2008. You will also find quotes from Dave in a book that guides want to be chopper builders by Russ Austin and Michael Benson.
Dave has also enjoyed being on TV shows such as Biker TV, where he raced a Harley Davidson (loves to race, the faster the better), and A Channel Breakfast Television, he certainly isn´t shy in front of a camera. His confidence and track record of building beautiful custom motorcycles also caught the attention of a production company that featured four of Dave´s builds on a DVD called "Choppers - Mild to Wild".
The Bike Shows are what he looks forward to, the people who love bikes, as well as the other builders. He´s shown in Toronto, London, Daytona, and he even did a live weekend build at a show in Tillsonburg called Metal Fest.
I do want to mention that Dave feels it´s very important to give back to our community, and because of this we started a Rotten Road Ride in 2005. It´s a great day where we do a scoot and shoot, give away t-shirts and great door prizes, as well as a free barbeque. Registration for this ride is donations only, and all donations go to the local youth programs in our community.
I´ve tried to keep this short, and I know that I´ve probably left out a lot. If you talk to Dave, you´ll find that he has thousands of stories, I keep telling him he should write a book about all his adventures, and all the interesting people he´s met over the years. When he tells his stories I swear your sides will ache from laughing so hard! I CAN´T WAIT to see what life has in store for us next, so far it´s been a great ride!"
We´re excited to have Dave Green Custom Cycle back this year!
